Hallo allerseits.
Study Abroad. Everyone should do it.
Alright so, es war grau in the city of Berlin today. Sure, it's grey and cold; but it still doesn't take away from the beauty that is inherent in this place. Meh, perhaps I'm biased, but ever since I set foot here I have been nothing short away from enchanted. It's hard to say as to what it is that enchants me... the culture? the history, perhaps. The pieces of the puzzle I keep running into.
Ich wohne in Kreuzberg, located in what used to be the eastern part of Berlin. Let's just say that if you want to get a close feel of the Deutsche Demokratische Republik era, this is one of the spots you need to check.
Kreuzberg is filled with a story of rebellion and 'squatters', along with the remnants of a very special time in history. But enough about history books. This town is filled with a lot of cool graffiti, sometimes political, sometimes just plain trippy. One thing is for sure, the Germans are serious about what they tag and how they tag it.
Being here really puts some things in perspective for you -not to mention makes you cultured... and drunk. But, jokes aside, learning from a history book is one thing. Being there to feel what it was all about is another.
So, yes. It's nifty.
But enough butt-kissing. So, what's it like to live in Berlin?
Well, let's first realize that here's a chick who's never ever, ever dormed before in her life. I guess it would be equivalent to your first time getting belig-plastered on nothing but overproof alcohol.

Er, let's just say it's a great experience, and a great opportunity to have some sweet anecdotes for your grandkids one day.
"No regrets -just great stories." - AMW.
It's true kids, experiences like these make you grow up. I mean, yes, there's 10,000 other things that you can mature from, but why not do it the fun way. You live, you learn. And you learn to say 'genau' 'til you're saying it so much you sound mentally handicapped.

"Haben Sie.. frijoles?"- The place fueling half the debauchery, Minimarkt.
Berlin is pretty cheap, all things considering. Yes, you can't forget the exchange rate really (damn euros!)... and um.. it seems I've been talking about booze too much in this entry, so let's talk about something less vicious. Ahem. There are non-alcoholic wins in the Vaterland as well. Turkish Markets are pretty sweet for fruit, eggs, and well... farmer stuff. Most places will get you lunch for just a mere couple euros. Like, stick your hand in your pocket and bring out a couple coins and you're set (I love finding coins here. Reminds me of finding treasure).
If you're into cooking at home (like we in the 'second floor' are), Kaiser's, the place where most of us do our shopping (if not all) is also good. I think there are cheaper places, but we like it there.
Quality-wise, food here is also real good, imho. Meat tastes like meat and burgers taste like heaven. My 'roommates' and I are at this joint called King Burger a lot. It's pretty good. Though, Kreuzburger is the win for burgers in this side of town (duh).
** as a sidenote: 2 € wine is a winner at any party where the people involved don't know much about wine and are all about getting silly. You'll find that a lot here.
Umm.
There's a lot of other things I can sit here and talk to you about... but it's late, I'm tired, and I've got a country to visit this weekend. Also, Kreuzberg tourist hunters aren't paying me for this publicity... so just take my word for it. Kreuzberg is the place to be if you're brutal like me, Dave Mustaine, and pancakes are.
